Email topics and Manage what you get

Name the kinds of email you send, so a person can turn one off and keep the rest. The Unsubscribe link still stops all marketing email.

Email topics are the kinds of marketing email your business sends, such as Offers, Events or Club news. A campaign or a marketing automation names its topic, and a person who turned that topic off does not receive it. They keep getting your other topics.

Name your topics

  1. Open Settings → Email.
  2. In Topics, press Add a topic.
  3. Give it a Name, the words people read in the email's footer and on their page, such as "Offers". What it covers is one optional sentence shown under it.
  4. With several locations, Who it's for offers The whole business or one club only.
  5. Press Add topic.

Each topic's menu has Rename or edit, Move up, Move down and Archive. An archived topic is no longer offered to a campaign. People who turned it off stay off, and the campaigns that used it keep their history.

Pick the topic for a campaign or an automation

  • On a campaign's Details step, choose the Topic. General marketing means no topic: only Unsubscribe stops it.
  • On a marketing automation, choose the Topic on its page.
  • The Audience step says how many people turned the topic off, such as "120 turned off Offers".

What the person sees

Once your business has a topic, every marketing email ends with Manage what you get and Unsubscribe. A member with a portal also sees Manage preferences.

  • Manage what you get opens a page titled "What would you like from" your business, with a switch for each topic. Turning one off stops that topic and changes nothing else. Leave everything stops all marketing email.
  • Unsubscribe stops all marketing email from your business, as before. Its page offers to choose topics instead.

On a deal's record

Email topics in the deal's Details reads Gets every topic, or the topics they turned off, with when and why under When and why.

  1. Press Change when a person asks you to stop one kind of email, at the desk or by phone.
  2. Turn the topic off, and say Why, such as "asked at the desk". The reason is kept with the change.
  3. Turn a topic back on only when the person has asked for it, and say so.

Topics they turned off in your old system can come across with an import. See Importing from your old system.

Limits

  • Topics are for email. Texts have no topics.
  • A topic for one club is offered to every campaign. Pick it only for that club's campaigns.
